Chapter 1037: To The Skies!
Chapter 1037: To The Skies!
"I like the enthusiasm, wolfy. But not all of us can grow wings like you," he said mockingly.
"You're right. But we have an alternative," Alex replied, hopping over the fence again and sliding toward the crater.
Kary knew better than to try to get him to explain and instead followed behind him, commanding the others to follow suit.
"Everyone into the crater!"
Aside from Liu Yan, there was very little hesitation as the others hopped the fence in quick succession, sliding or skipping their way behind Alexander and Kary.
David looked at them with a smirk.
"Look at us, becoming fugitives. Ah, they grow up so fast," he said mockingly before following behind them.
As they all reached the flat part below, Alexander turned to look at David, who was still sliding down.
While he waited for him to reach them, Alex reached inside his mind for someone else. 'Shegror. I know I'm asking you to do something that isn't very dignified, and I apologize in advance. But these are extenuating circumstances, and I need your help.'
It took a moment before he heard Shegror sigh deeply inside his head.
'I already know what you're going to ask. Do I have a choice?' she asked, her tone grumpy.
'Not really?' Alex replied.
Another moment of silence ensued before Shegror grumbled back at him.
'Fine. But you owe me!'
Alex chuckled internally, acquiescing to her demand, before focusing on David, who had just arrived before him.
"How many people can your drake hold?" he asked without explaining his plan.
"Uh... Not enough?" David replied.
"David. How many?"
David grumbled inaudibly, making mental math as he recalled the space on the back of his drake.
"Three, maybe four if we squeeze in the smaller ones. Why? It's not like that covers the ones that don't fly," he argued.
"I have the others covered. Summon your drake. We are leaving here before they make it to the top of the ridge," Alex declared, sending out a mana pulse.
He could sense the ten humans nearing the top of the stairs, and they needed to hurry. Alex pulled inside him, infusing Aether into Shegror's soul so she could take on her draconic form, and summoned her into the crater while David let his drake out of his shadow.
Immediately, the crater felt crowded as both draconian beasts tried extending their wings.
Shegror growled at the drake, who felt the pressure from the dragon and stepped aside, letting it have the lion's share of the space.
"Everyone get on the dragons. Kary, Jonathan, and I will fly by ourselves, but the others need to step up immediately. We are ditching the cops," Alex explained, rushing them up Shegror's back.
The group took a moment to contemplate the enormous black dragon before them, feeling its unhappy gaze wash over them.
"Are you sure this is safe, Cory asked, gulping.
"Get on," Shegror's voice echoed in their heads.
"Don't make me regret my choice," she added.
"Yes, Ma'am!" Cory exclaimed, his courage flying out the window.
Alex chuckled, shaking his head at Shegror.
'What? You said time was of the essence,' she defended herself in his mind.
'Whatever,' Alex replied, rolling his eyes.
In two shakes of a wing, David had Winston, Violette, and Aapo in front of him on the back of his drake, the space suddenly crowded, and the rest of the group, aside from Alex, Kary, and Jonathan, were on Shegror's back.
They heard shouting coming from the crater's ledge and saw that three cops had already arrived, and Alex gave the order.
"Take off! Now!" he shouted, growing wings on his back, as Kary ignited and Jonathan blasted upward.
Alex flew toward the three police officers, noticing them pulling out their weapons, and forced mana toward them, knocking them out before they could take a shot. But he knew that was only the beginning of it.
As the others arrived on the viewing platform, guns were drawn and aimed at them.
The drake and Shegror couldn't lift from the ground as fast as the three humans and the risk of their passengers getting shot was growing by the second.
Alex took no chance, surrounding them with a barrier, but his mana was already running thin, and the barrier was flimsy at best. He was scared it wouldn't block a bullet.
*Bang!*
*Ting!*
As the first shot was fired, a wind wall rose around the crater, the gusts kicking up dust and loose sand, slowing down the bullet before it bounced off the shield Alex had erected. Alexander looked up at Jonathan, giving him a thumbs up, and the kid grinned in response. Seconds later, a barrage of bullets rained in their direction, only for the same thing to happen repeatedly as the drake and dragon finally took to the skies.
It wasn't until they were many hundred meters in the air that Alex relaxed. Of course, they weren't out of the woods yet, but the risk had drastically reduced.
Alex quickly guided the flight northeast, as they couldn't just land at the airport on dragons and called Major Schrute.
The call rang twice before the woman picked up, her voice annoyed.
"About time you called! I've been waiting around at this damned hangar for four days! Where
the hell have you been?!" she growled in his ear.
"Major, I don't have time for this. How soon can you take flight?"
The woman calmed down from the urgency in his tone.
"Half an hour, at best. I'll have to submit a flight plan to the control tower."
"Great," Alex replied, cutting her off.
"Submit a flight plan to Yeosu Airport and meet us there."
The Major was about to argue his order, but the call abruptly ended.
"Little fucker, rushing me like this. And where the fuck was he? It sounded like he was in a
wind tunnel," she complained as she started plotting a flight plan.
Alex smiled as the thought of her being pissed off made him happy for a moment. He had
looked online for the closest airport to them that would have less strict security, and the Yeosu Airport had popped up.
It was barely an airport, the runway scarcely big enough for small commercial flights to land. But that was perfect for their needs.
'At least we'll have a few hours to take off before the authorities catch on to our scent.'n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
