Seeing the card, Daniel thanked the Keeper and quickly entered the actualization room to actualize the two new cards he had acquired. Everything proceeded normally as the points reduced and the motes of light converged into figures.
First, Daniel actualized Guo Jia, then Guan Yu. Guo Jia appeared cautious, glancing around nervously, while Guan Yu initially looked around with curiosity before standing confidently. His iconic gesture of stroking his long beard emerged as he seemed to assess Daniel\'s worth before nodding.
Daniel didn\'t know why Guan Yu was nodding, but he didn\'t question it. If he were resurrected and saw a stranger who had brought him back, he would be even more judgmental and paranoid than Guan Yu.
"Greetings, Mr. Guo Jia and Mr. Guan Yu," Daniel greeted the two generals. Guo Jia, brought back from his thoughts, responded first.
"Ah! Greetings… My lord, or… what should I call you?" Guo Jia started, sounding a bit awkward.
"You can call me whatever you want: Daniel, Lord, Boss."
"I\'ll stick with \'My lord\' then," said Guo Jia.
"Greetings, my lord. You brought me back. Is there anything I can help you with?" Guan Yu greeted Daniel.
"Ah, Mr. Guan, there are several things I need your help with. But first, let\'s get you both acquainted with the modern world, shall we?" Daniel said to Guan Yu with a hint of mystery, then led the two out of the space in the shop to the real world.
He found some appropriate clothes for them to change out of their ancient attire so they wouldn\'t stand out in the modern day.
Guo Jia looked like a shrewd businessman, while Guan Yu\'s stature and iconic beard still stood out like a sore thumb. Especially when he wore shades, he looked like an American biker gang member with Asian features especially when he preferred jeans and black jacket over a casual shirt.
The guy looked intimidating and out of place, but still barely passed as a Guan Yu fanboy cosplaying with the same beard style.
Daniel brought the two to Cao Cao, who was staying at the Atlanteus base to oversee the CERBERUS program training. Cao Cao was in the middle of watching recorded sessions of basic training to differentiate each volunteer\'s capabilities.
"Mr. Cao!" Daniel greeted Cao Cao, who was watching the screen in his traditionally styled Han office.
Cao Cao had decorated his office in a traditional Han style, with wooden architecture and decorations, while he himself wore a suit. He seemed quite comfortable in this environment.
"Ah, my lord! How can I—" Cao Cao stopped dead in his tracks, his mouth agape.
The moment Cao Cao saw Guo Jia and Guan Yu, his face told it all—he was full of disbelief, stunned at the sight of the two.
"Guo Jia!? Guan Yu!?" Cao Cao uttered their names as he walked toward them.
"My lord!" Guo Jia shouted in jubilation before rushing toward Cao Cao and paying his utmost respect. "I, Guo Jia, never thought I would meet you once again! Heaven has taken mercy on me, my lord!" Guo Jia said, tears of happiness and excitement streaming down his face, along with profound gratitude toward Daniel.
"No need to call me \'lord.\' Now we serve the same lord; it\'s not appropriate to call me that," Cao Cao said with a bit of admonishment, though his eyes and expression betrayed his utmost happiness at being addressed that way by his old advisor.
"Don\'t worry, I don\'t mind," Daniel said nonchalantly. "Mr. Guo can just call me \'boss\' or whatever he prefers."
Cao Cao nodded and thanked Daniel for his magnanimity. He remembered that what Guo Jia did might have caused misunderstandings between superiors and subordinates in his era if someone were to call their subordinate \'lord\' in front of them. It might make narrow-minded people think they were plotting to rebel or replace the superior.
Cao Cao then looked at Guan Yu, who was stoically standing beside Daniel.
"Lord Guan," Cao Cao greeted, nodding at Guan Yu.
"Long time no see, Grand Chancellor Cao," Guan Yu returned the gesture with a nod.
Daniel waited for Cao Cao, Guo Jia, and Guan Yu to catch up. As they talked, Cao Cao remembered and turned to Daniel.
"Thank you, my lord, for granting this favor to me. I\'ll strive to serve you even better and work even harder!" Cao Cao said gratefully.
"Thank you, Mr. Cao," Daniel responded, then turned toward Guan Yu.
"Mr. Guan, I understand the depth of your loyalty to Liu Bei, a bond forged in brotherhood and shared struggles. However, circumstances prevented me from bringing him back. Instead, I offer you a new opportunity, a chance to serve alongside Cao Cao in this modern era. The conflicts of the Three Kingdoms are ancient history, and a new world awaits.
Your unwavering loyalty and unmatched skill could be invaluable to Cao Cao\'s cause, and together, you could achieve great things." Daniel said toward Guan Yu, trying to persuade him.
Guan Yu didn\'t respond immediately. He went silent for a while, as if pondering Daniel\'s words.
"My lord," he finally began, looking Daniel directly in the eyes, "can you tell me one thing? Why did you not bring my sworn brother, Liu Bei, back?"
Cao Cao and Guo Jia heard this and awaited Daniel\'s answer with bated breath. They didn\'t know how to help their lord, as this was a question only he could answer.
