Chapter 218: From Then On, He Never Returned _1

She then closed her eyes, allowing the tears to flow freely, as the memories of ten years ago continued to dominate her mind.

Back then, she had just rescued a young boy from a swarm of sharks, and before they could catch their breath, the assassins, who were sent to kill her, were hot on their trail. She told the boy to escape on his own, fearing that following her would only put him in harm’s way. But the boy held her hand tightly and swam desperately with her.

They sought refuge on an island, hoping to hide in the jungle.

Once on the island, her beautiful fishtail turned into delicate legs. With no shoes to put on, she could feel the bare ground painfully against her feet. The young boy then hoisted her onto his back, carrying her as they tried to survive in the jungle.

But their pursuers also landed on the island, searching for them everywhere. Outnumbered, she dared not confront them directly.

Those men had been ordered to kill her, simply because she was one of those who had the right to inherit.

In reality, she posed no threat as a mere twelve-year-old girl. Nevertheless, they saw fit to eradicate her completely, to eliminate any potential threat in the future.

She remembered the boy hiding her and saying, “Stay here. I’ll lure them away, and when it’s safe, I’ll come back for you.”

But he never returned. He never came back for her.

She waited from night till the break of day, but he did not return. Unable to wait any longer, she went searching for him but could not find him in the field full of bodies. All she could find was his identification card.

His ID card, stained with blood…

The bodies scattered everywhere were those of the assassins who had wanted her dead…

She looked through each body, terrified of finding him, and when she couldn’t, it scared her even more…

She captured one of the assassins who was barely alive and asked him about the boy’s whereabouts. The assassin said that the boy had been taken by Geshu Chen, who had left a message: if she wanted the boy’s life, she would have to show herself!

But when she willingly walked into their trap, Geshu Chen claimed that the boy had died in battle and that his body had been thrown into the ocean…

She didn’t believe him. She wanted proof – alive or dead. She searched all over the world, but found nothing. Eventually, exhausted, she fainted in the sea only to be rescued by a middle-aged man, who took her back to his fishing village.

The middle-aged man later became her foster father.

Through the boy’s ID card, her foster father was able to trace the boy’s identity and hometown. When she rushed to his home, she was told the boy had been buried. His mother informed her that her son had died at sea and his body, recovered from the water, was unrecognizable by the time it had reached his hometown…

If it hadn’t been for rescuing her, the boy wouldn’t have died.

He fought alone against so many assassins, she dared not imagine what he went through in those horrific moments…

She remembered taking a regret pill, returning to the time when the boy was surrounded by sharks. She told herself to be resolute and not save him. Maybe he could have escaped from the sharks by himself, but she couldn’t refrain from helping…

She remembered after saving him once again, she decided to prioritize her own survival and avoid him, but the boy refused to leave her side.

She screamed at him to get lost.

Seeing assassins chasing her, the boy insistently took her hand to help her escape.

She we recalled not wanting to repeat the same mistake, firmly avoiding the direction of that island, but the vast ocean only offered that one island within a thousand miles. Even though she could stay in the sea indefinitely, the boy couldn’t. His wounds prevented him from staying in the sea for too long.

Left with no choice, she ended up returning to the island with the boy.

She told herself, no matter what, she couldn’t just hide and let the boy draw away the assassins on her behalf.

But history has a way of repeating itself. No matter how she warned the boy that saving her would cost his life, he wouldn’t listen. He rendered her unconscious, hid her and lured the assassins away…
