Chapter 5 - 5 - Setting my Goals straight
Chapter 5: - Setting my Goals straight
A retinue of maids accompanied them, further emphasizing their status.
Every maid and servant in the hallway bowed respectfully, a clear display of reverence for the King of the Nation, Karle von Selvius, and his second wife, Venessa von Selvius.
They arrived at a door, and Venessa\'s lips parted as she addressed a maid with a firm tone, her gaze cold and her face composed, "Why did she run like that?"
"F-forgive me, Your Majesty. Her Highness wanted to meet Prince Ryuk, so—"
THUD
"AAHHH!"
The maid trembled on the ground, clutching her reddened cheeks. She glanced at the woman, who displayed no emotion on her face, her eyes remaining cold as she opened the door to the room forcefully.
"Hic...hicc... I can\'t take care of myself, brother," the small girl sobbed quietly within the confines of her room.
She tended to her injuries alone, not wanting the maids to witness her vulnerable state.
BANG
"My child~" Venessa ran towards her daughter, seeing her ruby eyes filled with tears, startling her before she took her in her embrace.
"M-mother....sniff.....sniff.....waaaaahhhhh..."
The girl, feeling her mother\'s hug, broke into tears like a crying child, forgetting about all her body\'s memories of an adult.
"Who was it?"
Finally, a voice resounded in the room, and the man looked towards his daughter\'s tears, his anger surging. He had heard his daughter falling on the ground, yet none of the soldiers had tried to help her. How dare they.
"Dad....sniff...brother...He..."
She continued crying, held in her mother\'s embrace, and told how her brother had ignored her during all her visits, not giving her a single glance even though she had fallen on the ground.
Hearing all this, the man felt a slight surprise, as it was the first time such a thing had happened. Normally, Ryuk took care of his sister above all else.
He pondered for a moment, then glanced at his daughter\'s tear-streaked face and sighed, "Sigh... I will talk to Alisia. Your mother will be here."
The man turned and made his way outside the room. Venessa kept looking at her husband disappearing, then glanced at her daughter\'s pitiful state. She had hit the maid because she felt too helpless.
If Ryuk himself didn\'t want to meet her daughter, then not even her husband could do anything, her mind drifted to a past memory
// Flashback //
"No!, Husband, who are you people!"
Venessa looked towards her husband, Karle, who was being held aloft by a cloaked man, gripped by the hair.
Beside him, a woman with captivating Amber eyes and flowing black hair sat upon the throne, humming a melodious lullaby, cradling her belly bump. She fixed her gaze on Venessa.
With just one glance, Venessa knew this woman was far more dangerous than the cloaked figure. Fear gripped her, and she clenched her dress, pleading, "Please, release him."
Her words fell on deaf ears amidst the chaos. The mansion was a scene of massacre, with lifeless bodies scattered, victims of these mysterious intruders. The air seemed thick with a black aura emanating from the assailants.
They moved with a deadly grace, leaving a trail of destruction. Venessa noticed a strange heat haze around them, a testament to their overwhelming power.
"Stop, Uncle Wang, leave him. After all, I have some use for him," the woman said, her voice firm and devoid of any emotion.
At those words, the cloaked man unceremoniously dropped Karle to the ground.
THUD
"Husband!"
Venessa rushed to Karle\'s side, helping him stand. Despite his injuries, his pride remained unbroken. He looked at the perpetrators, his gaze unwavering, though worry lurked in his eyes for Venessa.
"Listen, Karle, I will make you a king, and in exchange, you have to act as my husband for some time," the woman stated.
Venessa was shocked by this proposition, grappling with the weight of her family\'s fate.
"Never— I accept."
She overrode Karle\'s refusal, accepting the woman\'s proposal, her decision weighed by the knowledge of her husband\'s unyielding nature.
"Leave the Silvester family alive. It\'s over."
Venessa\'s heart raced, her body trembling. The truth was, her real name was Venessa Silvester. She realized the woman was holding her family hostage.
Had she rejected the offer, the consequences would have been dire, possibly leading to her family\'s demise.
// Flashback ends //
.....
Inside a room, a woman diligently wrote a letter, her penmanship elegant and precise. Three individuals kneeled on the ground, a palpable tension in the air.
Beside the woman, a man stood with averted gaze, beads of sweat dotting his forehead. It was Karle Von Selvius, the king of one of the mightiest kingdoms on Heindal Continent.
He trembled, not daring to lift his gaze to meet the woman\'s eyes.
The woman expertly folded the letter and placed it in an envelope. Sealing it with molten wax, she turned to the man who appeared out of nowhere beside her
"Here, Uncle Wang, deliver it instantly."
With utmost respect, the old man accepted the letter. The three figures, including Karle, quivered under the weight of his presence. He belonged to a realm of strength they could scarcely comprehend atleast for karle but for those three figures he was akin to god — Their Mentor.
"Princess, I understand," he bowed deeply before shifting his gaze to the three trembling souls. "I will be away for a few minutes. Protect the princess at all costs."
WHOOSH
He vanished, leaving the room. The three individuals remained, on edge, knowing about the woman being the last person in the room who needed any protection.
"Now, speak," Alisia commanded.
Karle, finally finding his voice, spoke without lifting his gaze, "Olivia wanted to meet Ryuk, so—"
"Just this?" Alisia was surprised, her knowledge of Ryuk\'s fondness for the girl making this revelation unexpected. Then she heard, "He rejected her visits," causing her to glance at Karle, who too peeked at her.
"This isn\'t what I expected," she mused, narrowing her eyes, trying to fathom Ryuk\'s sudden change. A memory of a man crossed her mind who was also the first person she found unpredictable, and she smiled, realizing the influence , \'He\'s truly following in his father\'s footsteps.\'
"If he doesn\'t wish to meet her, so be it," she said firmly. The man clenched his fist, feeling helpless as a father to not even fulfill his daughter\'s wishes, before leaving the room.

"Forgive me, Your Highness. A girl suddenly jumped in front of the carriage and seemed to be c-cursing you," the soldier trembled as he informed Ryuk.
Normally, if anyone dared to stop a royal carriage, their heads would have been flying, but his prince was different.
Ryuk respected commoners and was warm to others, full of mercy. However, the soldier didn\'t feel any godly devotion towards Ryuk, being from a noble family that suffered at the hands of this small child who looked only about five years old when they found out mistreating some commoners. It was an eye-opener for him.
This was the reason he didn\'t order to harm the commoner and waited for Ryuk\'s approval. He was prepared to give some silver coins to the pitiful girl, knowing what his highness would order.
"Throw her away "
As those words reached his ears, he slightly flinched, not believing what he had just heard. He tried to confirm again as he looked at the boy, "P-pardon, your highne—" He felt a chill run down his spine as he saw Ryuk\'s amber eyes turn cold, looking at him blankly.
"I will do it now," He trembled as moved his horse forward and ordered two of the soldiers to throw the girl out of the way.
"R-Ryuk, you killed my mother!"
"Why did you arrive late!"
"You heretic!"
Ryuk looked coldly towards the girl as his eyes bore killing intent, he wanted to shred her into pieces this instant but he hold it in.
\' control, Ryuk \'
He controlled his desire to kill her; after all, he had already killed her before even if it was past life but it was still vivid — Her bloodstained body fallen on ruthless ground as she until the death remained stubborn.
For him such people didn\'t deserve such peaceful relief at all, they needed a life worse than death.

The carriage came to a halt outside Goddess Fela\'s Monastery, and Priest Kermit hurried over to receive the Crown Prince of the Selvius Kingdom.
"Oh, welcome, your highness. Please, this way," Kermit said, rubbing his hands together and maintaining a welcoming smile.
He observed the Amber-eyed boy departing the carriage with elegance, his eyes scanning the surroundings as if searching for someone. This sight left Kermit slightly confused, but he kept up his friendly demeanor.
\'Guess I\'ve got a big catch,\' Kermit thought, noticing the carriage usually associated with carrying valuable goods, and greed glinted in his eyes, staying true to his character.
Ryuk, however, didn\'t miss this and seeing the Kermit\'s face a past memory resurfaced about how this man\'s widened eyes looked at him while filled with tears when he tore his heart out with his bare hands.
Acknowledging Kermit with a nod but paying little attention to the soon-to-be unfortunate figure, Ryuk entered the monastery.
As he walked through the corridors, memories of his past deeds, the bloodstained white pillars, and the havoc he had once caused flashed through his mind. Yet now, he was here again but for something different.
"Where is the White Room?"
Ryuk\'s composed inquiry caught Priest Kermit off guard, leaving him startled and stammering before he managed to compose himself.
He glanced at the 20,000 golden coins carried by servants and hastily said, "Please, this way, your highness."
The White Room was a contract chamber reserved for nobles, requiring a substantial sum to access. Within, a crystal pillar held a unique artifact that bound two parties in a contract, inflicting excruciating pain and potentially death upon one if the contract was breached.
This distinct offering made Goddess Fela\'s Religion highly popular among nobility, given that no other religion provided such a unique service. Moreover, there was only one crystal pillar on the entire Heindal Continent.
"Take those coins and grant me access,"
Ryuk declared firmly as he entered the White Room, leaving Priest Kermit grinning as he guided the servants to the treasury.
Inside the White Room, Ryuk beheld a crystal pillar at the center of the spacious chamber, flanked by two chairs and a table placed at a distance.
\'System, initiate the merging,\'
Ryuk commanded, and a golden, transparent screen appeared before him—
?•····················•?•····················•?
Merging Artifacts
SLAVE SEAL + CRYSTAL PILLAR
[■□□□□□□□□□] 10%
[■■■■■□□□□□] 50%
[■■■■■■■■□□] 80%
?????????? 100% ????????!
New Artifact — ENSLAVEMENT GRIMOIRE
?•····················•?•····················•?
Ryuk\'s gaze remained fixed on the screen as his mind delved into the potential of merging the two artifacts. He weighed the drawbacks of each carefully.
The Slave Seal had the advantage of being usable without the other party\'s permission, but it required the target to be weaker than the user.
On the other hand, the Crystal Pillar allowed contracts between parties regardless of their strength, as long as both parties willingly accepted the terms.
Merging them would mean removing these respective drawbacks, granting him the ability to enslave anyone without considering their strength or requiring their consent.
