Chapter 526 - 526: A Lesson
Xia Wan had intended to scare him, but unexpectedly, it turned out that he indeed had a premeditated plan!
“What were you really up to, lurking around my shop?” Xia Wan’s anger flared, “Is my parents’ disappearance related to you in any way?”
“How can you be so dense, woman!” Wen Shu retorted in frustration, “I have nothing to do with your parents being taken away!”
“How do you know they were taken away?” Xia Wan quickly spotted the flaw in Wen Shu’s statement.
“I… I…” Wen Shu’s eyes shifted nervously, forgetting the pain in his hand.
Xia Wan grabbed his hand, twisting the silver needle still embedded in it.
“Ah! Stop! It hurts! Don’t move!” Wen Shu cried out, his other hand suspended in the air, not daring to touch Xia Wan.
“Tell me everything you know, and perhaps I’ll consider sparing you!” Xia Wan’s tone was firm and impatient, not loosening her grip.
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!” Realizing that Xia Wan was not as easily intimidated as others, Wen Shu began to confess everything.
“I’ve been near the shop these days, trying to see if I could retrieve some things I left behind,” Wen Shu explained, visibly scared.
“As you know, I had to leave in a hurry last time and couldn’t take many things.”
“My wife kicked me out because of this. Now, I’m struggling to make ends meet and had to find a way to retrieve those items…” “What items?” Chen MO interjected cautiously.
Wen Shu hesitated, seemingly weighing his words.
But Xia Wan didn’t care about these details: “What exactly did you see?” “You know my parents were taken. Who did you see?”
Wen Shu, looking downcast, revealed, “It was your naive uncle and aunt, and two or three others who seemed well-trained, like soldiers or members of some professional organization.”
“Who else was there?” Xia Wan pressed further.
After pondering, Wen Shu added, “I just saw these people. The driver looked familiar, but I can’t recall where I’ve seen him before.”
“What did the driver look like?” Xia Wan asked urgently.
“Ah, just a typical man with a buzz cut, wearing sunglasses. It’s hard to make out his face,” Wen Shu said, clearly growing impatient.
“But you mentioned you’d seen him before!” Xia Wan seized on his statement.
“I’ve encountered so many people; naturally, some look familiar. You can’t expect me to remember everyone!” Wen Shu responded, his frustration evident.
Xia Wan twisted the needle more firmly in his hand, eliciting an even more agonizing wail from Wen Shu: “Ouch! Lady, I get it! I was wrong! Stop twisting!”
“What else did you observe? Tell me!” Xia Wan demanded sternly.
“Truly, that’s everything!” Wen Shu looked imploringly at Chen MO, pleading, “I swear, that’s all! I wouldn’t dare lie!”
Chen MO, sensing Xia Wan’s frustration and not wanting to lose this lead, considered the situation.
But realizing Wen Shu probably had no more information to hide, he felt it was fruitless to continue this line of questioning.
Gently patting Xia Wan’s shoulder, Chen MO then queried Wen Shu, “Do you recognize the name Jiang Lu?”
Upon hearing Chen MO mention Jiang Lu, Xia Wan realized she had been overly emotional, forgetting this crucial detail.
Wen Shu blinked, his forehead creased in thought, as if trying to recall.
Just as Xia Wan was about to take further action, Wen Shu suddenly exclaimed, “Ah, yes! That name does sound familiar! I’ve seen him! Isn’t he that Jiang family youngster from Taocheng?”
“Insufferably arrogant, leveraging his family’s wealth and military connections to act above the law in Taocheng!”
“Wait, how do you two know about him? Why are you asking me?”
Chen MO observed Wen Shu’s baffled expression and turned to Xia Wan, “He really seems to have no direct link with Jiang Lu.”
“Perhaps Jiang Lu was merely using Wen Shu to get closer to you.”
Xia Wan shared this sentiment, but she remained skeptical about Wen Shuts revelations..
