Chapter 859: Please Call Me Lei Feng

Chapter 859: Please Call Me Lei Feng

After eating lunch and parting ways with Xiao Qin, I spotted Grandma Su in front of me as I was walking on a pedestrian bridge.

Grandma Su might be an expert among experts, but she was still almost ninety years old. Her head was drooped down, her back was hunched, and it looked like her body was shaking.

What’s… wrong? Did Grandma Su have some medical issues? She stopped walking in the middle of the bridge and rested against the handrail to rest.

Meng Zi once said: “Honor the elderly and the young in other families as we honor those in our own”. Director Cao’s interpretation of it was: Think about the lolis in other families as we do in our own. It looks like it was his own fault he was locked up in Dongguan and should be locked up a bit longer.

What Meng Zi actually meant was to respect your elders regardless if they are family or not (seems like Meng Zi has never met any of those old people who pretend to fall for insurance scams).

Regardless, as someone second only to Confucius, Meng Zi said a lot of reasonable things. I felt a bit sad for Grandma Su as I looked at her back.

She came alone to a unfamiliar city to look for her missing granddaughter. She’s also stubborn and she doesn’t trust the police, so she must be feeling very lonely. I shouldn’t shirk my responsibilities. I should try to get into touch with Ai ShuQiao as fast as possible and ask where Su Qiao is locked up, and why…

“Grandma Su.” I called out quietly from behind, “Why are you shaking? Are you cold even though it’s so hot outside? Are you sick?”

I asked out of concern.

“What?”

Grandma Su turned halfway around before I realized she was holding a brand new golden iPhone 5s and playing Angry Birds.

So you were shaking because you were playing a mobile game? I was worried over nothing, give my feelings back!

When Grandma Su noticed me looking at the golden phone, she explained: “This isn’t my phone, it’s stolen… probably.”

“What do you mean probably?” I lowered my voice as much as possible to avoid attracting attention, “Are you going out to steal phones with your status?”

“Hey.” Grandma Su looked dissatisfied, “What are you saying? I said it was probably stolen, I never said that I stole it.”

“What do you mean?”

Grandma Su continued to play Angry Birds as she explained how she obtained the phone.

It turns out it wasn’t a coincidence that I met Grandma Su again since she was following me.

It wasn’t really because she doesn’t trust me. It was mainly because she wasn’t really familiar with Dong Shan City, so she familiarized herself with the city as she followed me.

A young man ran right towards her and collided onto her shoulders right on this bridge.

If she was a normal ninety year old grandma, she would have been sent straight to the hospital. Since Grandma Su was quite robust, she was fine and even grabbed onto the man’s wrist with her shriveled fingers.

“Young man, why are you in such a panic. Did you do something bad?”

Grandma Su guessed correctly. The young man she bumped into was one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles drawn by Xiao Qin.

The young man was grabbed onto by an elderly woman and he couldn’t shake her off. He was terrified and afraid the police would catch up, so he pulled out the stolen phone, then tossed it to Grandma Su and said: “I’ll give this to you. Don’t try to scam me, hurry up and let me go.”

It looks like everyone has a weakness nowadays. Even robbers give away their stolen goods when they run into an elderly woman.

I can’t believe I actually thought Grandma Su stole the phone. After Grandma Su received the phone, she could immediately tell it was stolen, so she called a number in the contacts and tried to contact the owner.

The person who answered was a woman who sounded very arrogant. She started cursing at Grandma Su before she could even say anything. She threatened Grandma Su that she would find someone to break her legs if the phone wasn’t returned and that the phone’s location was being tracked via satellite.

Grandma Su was cursed at even though she was trying to return the phone. She didn’t argue and just directly hung up, then turned on airplane mode and started playing Angry Birds on the bridge.

“There’s actually no advantages to having such a flamboyant phone.” Grandma Su said calmly, “There was a girl in Vietnam who was too vain. She bought a Chinese counterfeit iPhone and ended up being spotted by a mugger. She was murdered in the middle of her night and her corpse was thrown into a washroom… the counterfeit phone was only ¥200.”

“If you’re too vain, especially if you’re a girl, then it won’t be good for you.”

Grandma Su seemed to be hinting at her granddaughter, Su Qiao, who left home because she had to be an actor.

Seeing Grandma Su calmly playing mobile games, I asked: “I still haven’t gotten any information about Su Qiao’s whereabouts, so why aren’t you worried? Have there been any progress on your side?”

“Tsk, what progress? The Happy Science Church didn’t have any leads, so I’ve been looking for a place to live in the past couple of days. I’ve also been waiting for news from you.”

I was a bit ashamed: “I haven’t been able to contact Ai ShuQiao. She flew to another country to do business and can’t contact the outside world…”

“It doesn’t matter, it’s not like she will never return home. You can help me ask once you get in touch with her.” Grandma Su beat another level as she was talking.

“Umm…” I was pretty amazed at Grandma Su’s calmness and patience, “Grandma Su, you’re quite calm right now, if my family member went missing…”

“Ha.” Grandma Su laughed coldly, “What else could I do other than other than play Angry Birds while waiting for news? Do you want me to run around the city aimlessly like a headless fly and turn into Angry Grandma?”

“Someone like me who’s lived so long and had so many children will inevitably experience a younger generation dying before them. Once you’ve experience that, you’ll become indifferent to everything else.”

“Also, Su Qiao’s been missing for almost two whole months. If she was killed, then she would have been killed a long time ago. If someone was going to do something bad to her, then they would have done it a long time ago. There’s no point worrying about it right now.”

“The reason Su Qiao ended up in this state is because of her vanity. I hope she can learn her lesson if she survives. Most people aren’t able to learn from mistakes until they actually get hurt.”

Grandma Su, who definitely looked like a weakling in other people’s eyes, had sounded like the strong. Her harsh assessment of her granddaughter was very Spartan-like.

Spartan Grandmas from Ancient Greece probably had the same temperament.

“What, the Persians invaded? I’m going to bite them to death with my dentures.”

Three hundred Spartan grandmothers ran angrily to defend Thermopylae. The Persian army was sent fleeing and they had to pay reparations for the grandmothers medical bills.

Grandma Su didn’t want to play Angry Birds anymore after she broke the record on the phone. She gave the phone to me to deal with however I want and left.

“Call me immediately once you get any news on Su Qiao, you know my phone number, right?”

I nodded. Grandma Su sent me a text before and I saved her number.

After Grandma Su left, I ran back to the station by the electronics market to return the stolen phone.

“Huh, how come you’re alone, where’s your girlfriend?” One of the officers said.

“Lao Yuan hasn’t been locked up yet. We still have a traitor, you came too early.” One officer joked.

I took out the golden phone from my pocket and put it on the table: “I got back another phone that was stolen this morning.”

The room instantly turned quiet as they probably thought: It’s a coincidence if you get one stolen good back, but do you think you’re a cop by getting two stolen goods back? Did you read too much manga and try to imitate Batman and Spider-man?

Lao Yuan patted me on the shoulder and apologized:

“Boy, I’m really sorry when I mistook you as a criminal when I first arrived at the plaza today…”

“No worries, I’m used to it.”

“I never expected you to be so chivalrous. It’s one thing helping someone you know get their phone back, but you actually helped a stranger get their phone back… which school do you attend, I’ll see if I could get the phone’s owner to write a thank you letter to your school…”

“No need.” I quickly declined. Also Grandma Su just said being vain won’t do any good, plus a thank you letter wouldn’t be of any use to me.

Some of the police commented:

“This young man is amazing, I’ve seen people pester other people who’ve regained stolen goods for thank you letters.”

“I heard someone say he practices martial arts. It looks like it’s true since he got a second phone back this easily. Which school do you practice at?”

“Supada Martial Arts School.” I made up a random name that sounds like Spartan.

“Supada? It sounds familiar, I think the coach appeared on TV before…”

“What, can’t you tell he’s tricking you?”

“Wait, son, you look familiar… are you an actor? I saw this low budget martial arts show online…”

Please, please don’t say it. You probably Bloody Battle of Jin Ling. I never expected Director Cao to use the save the dogs incident to boost the show’s popularity and the views increased by ten times. I don’t want to become famous this way.

In order to avoid being recognized, I practically fled from the police station.

Later I heard that when the police contacted the owner of the lost golden phone, the owner cursed at them, so the police decided: they were going to keep the phone as evidence until the case was solved. They would only return the phone once they catch all the offenders.
